Vacation and Recovery

Early on in program when I went on vacation with my family I also went on vacation from my program. I usually ate things that were not on my plan of eating, ate too much and didn't use any of the tools during my vacation. I would arrive home feeling guilt and shame over blowing it and would struggle to get back on track. Over the years I learned that taking my program with me was the best course of action to not only avoid the guilt and shame post-vacation but to also have a great time with my family. That meant taking my plan of eating with me, plenty of literature and calling my sponsor each day. Also having quiet time with my Higher Power each morning to connect and calm myself before getting into the hectic day that might be ahead was crucial. Asking for my HP's will and guidance for each day made all the difference in the world. I'm a planner, a big time planner so letting go of most of that prior to vacation has also been key. There are certain things that I need to plan for and prepare for, but upon arrival I think going with the flow and being spontaneous with NO expectations has been an added bonus. I don't have to plan and control every minute of every day. It's nice to just wake up and say "Hey, what does everyone want to do today?" I'm very much looking forward to my summer vacation with plenty of program wrapped around it.
